Let’s talk about what matters to District 6!

Stephanie’s platform is based on issues voters in District 6 care about, from the kitchen table to the cafeteria table:

Safety, Access, Investment, and Respect!

Safety

  • Ensure students’ rights to a safe and secure education are protected so that all students have a welcoming learning environment; school should not be a source of undue stress for students

  • Promote extracurricular programs and provide robust student support services to address their academic, social, and emotional needs

  • Help students maintain a healthy relationship with the use of technology and social media

Access

  • Pilot innovative initiatives to save money and improve sustainability in local schools

  • Collaborate with the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association and similar missioned groups such as Orange Education Support Professionals to provide additional low-cost, high-impact benefits to educators such as low-cost/free childcare

  • Be accountable to families, not state mandated tests; ensure that feedback is transparent, relevant, and in language that all families can understand

Investment

  • Visit each District 6 school at least once per semester in order to understand the concerns and needs of each community

  • Continue partnerships between CTE schools and local businesses to develop our regional workforce; grow professional internship programs for students

  • Partner with business and our senior communities to provide volunteers who can read to, tutor, and mentor our students

  • Encourage the legislature to fully fund public education, return local control of our schools, and pass public education laws that make sense

Respect

  • From the classroom to school board meetings, build a districtwide culture of communication so that unique issues are solved consistently and in a timely manner

  • Allow teachers to focus on their professional development, lesson plan without interference, and  build relationships with their students instead of worrying about evaluations and test scores

  • Increase teacher recognition in cost-effective ways
